The family tree website is powered by a powerful piece of software called ‘The Next Generation’. Every website that uses this has to have its own licence.
This will be purchased on your behalf, the programme installed and a gedcom file imported.
Any images you want to add will be included along with your own content.
For the TNG Family tree part of the web site you can choose from 18 different templates, the front page of any of these allows for customisation.
See the TNG website for template samples.

A domain name is the name of your website (i.e. this website is called Kinnisfolk.co.uk), all domain names are unique.
You can choose your Domain name, but it will depend on availability. I will ask you for a few options. You cannot use a Domain name that is already registered.
A (.com) domain name costs more to register and will be subject to a £5 surcharge.
You will own this domain name for as long as you want it, subject to paying annual registration fees for it.
This is not dependent on you hosting your web site with Kinnisfolk. You can move your domain name to any provider.
You can alternatively use a subdomain at no cost (i.e. kinnisfolk.co.uk/smithfamily) this will not belong to you and is dependent on us hosting your website.
WordPress is a powerful tool for building websites and Blogs.
It is possible to build a web site with or without a blog as a container for your Family tree website.
This will give you more design and content options although the family tree pages of the website will follow the template from TNG.
Yes, you will be able to update your web site on your own if you wish.
You will have full access to the areas that allow you to add and edit content. You can upload new gedcom files as you wish.
All content can be directly edited on the site including the addition of new people and events.
We will update your site according to your chosen package if you require.
If you choose a wordpress option, you will have full control over the content of your web site.
All word press sites have to use a theme (a set of templates). There are hundreds available but trial and error makes Avada my preferred theme – there is a one off licence fee of $60 to pay per web site. The licence is yours to keep and can be moved to another provider.
If you wish to use a free theme this is possible but limits the options for your site.
Once you own your own domain name you can have any email address you like associated with it.
For example: john@mydomain.co.uk

GEDCOM: is an acronym for a Genealogical Data Communication file.
This is the standard tyype of file used by most, if not all, family tree programmes.
The file can be used to move your information from one programme to another. It is also used by all the big Genealogical and family history sites like Family Search, Ancestry and Find My Past and can be used to place your information on those sites.
It is also used to build our own Family Tree Website Package
