Over the last 30 years I have been researching both my own and other peoples family histories.
My interest in family history and Genealogy started when I was a child in the 1970s when my mum started on the long journey of trying to trace our family tree
I went from being mildly interested to intensly curious and eventually took over the work on my father’s side of the family while she continued with hers.
This lead to me gaining valuable experience and learning by my mistakes along the way. What began as a hobby lead me to start researching trees for other people and eventually to me to starting a Masters Degree at Strathclyde University in Genealogy, Paleaography and Heraldry.
I have my Certificate and am now working towards my Diploma, hoping to complete the Masters next year.
This has put my methods and the scope of my researching on a much more professional footing and across a wider range of records.
As well as researching family history I am very interested in Scottish history in general and in particular the social history of both Scotland and the wider world.
I have particular interest in Stirlingshire, Perthshire, Argyll & Bute, West Lothian and Aberdeenshire which is where most of my family hail from.
I have done extensive research of emigration to Canada the USA, Australia and New Zealand and have many contacts around the world.
My own current projects include, studying & transcribing the Kirk Session books of St Ninians, Airth, Carriden and Falkirk.
Studying the history and people of Houston in Renfrewshire.
Part of a transciption project with the Friends of Argyll papers to transcribe 18th century court books.
Previous projects include Family Search indexing and transcribing, Airth and St Ninians Census transcribing and Scotlands Places indexing and transcribing.
